The world of discounted college books is very rare. In my opinion the best place to get college books is online. The sites that you can find discount college books include:

Amazon
Ecampus
Booksamillion
BetterBooks

You might also be interested in book trading. Unlike finding discount college books, it will be harder to find somebody that wants to trade a book with you. The trading of books has sprung up tons of sites including:

SwapTree
Bookmooch
Bookins
Booktradenow

You can get discount college books, but 99% of the time they will be used. Used books aren’t like old socks from your friend. But they will still serve your purpose to study for six months and then dump them.

Every student knows that getting cheap college books is the key to saving thousands of dollars while in college. The average student spends more that 25% of his/her tuition on textbooks.

One of the best places is to look in your student commons for discount college books. Every student that doesn’t want to get ripped off by the campus book store will be posting their books there. Or you might want to post your own ad for trading a book with a fellow student at your college.

The best discount book is one that is free. I’m sure you realize that, but if you can get your friends to give you a book that they just didn’t sell back or are to lazy to, that will be gold.

Also if you have relatives, you could see what classes that they have taken and you might be able to trade books with them. You could also purchase the book from them probably cheaper than you could get a college textbook on the internet.

One other great source that comes off the top of my head is standing outside the college book store and offering to buy somebody’s book for five dollars more that the book store will charge.

Now that you have many ideas for getting cheap college books you should have no problem saving money this semester. Another great resource for getting discount college books is the link below.

Getting college books for cheap isn’t as easy as it seems. Their are many different problems you might encounter. I will list the three main problems when searching for cheap college books.

The first problem with getting college books for cheap is that you might run into a site that is a scam. What I mean by this is some scam artists are targeting college students because they want to find the cheapest textbook possible.

College students make good targets because they don’t know how to spot an over the top good deal when they see one. So I would advise that you know if a site is worthy of spending money on or not. The best way to spot a fake is they don’t have a trust logo or better business bureau logo on their site.

The second problem with getting college books for cheap is you might not get the textbook you just purchased. A lot of places will send you the wrong edition or even the wrong textbook. To avoid this all you can really do is make sure they have a return policy. If you do get the wrong textbook make sure you contact the seller asap.

The third problem with getting college books for cheap is their are so many sites that claim they have the cheapest textbooks. The best way to find the cheapest textbook is to use a search engine that gathers all the prices for you along with the shipping charges. A book may seem less expensive on one site but when you add the shipping and handling charges, it is possible that the other textbook is cheaper.

Also it will only take you five to ten extra minutes to really search the internet good to find college books for cheap. Remember the first problem is the scam artists, make sure the site is reliable. The second problem is make sure the site has a return policy. And make sure you use a search engine that gathers prices for you.

College bookstores can be found in most cities and inside college or university campuses. Using the Internet, one can find literally hundreds and thousands of online book stores. There is a wide variety of options and choices available to students all around the world.

The college textbook market is quite complicated with frequent fluctuations in pricing. Publishers are often accused of coming out with newer edition of books at unnecessary frequencies, which students feel is a deliberate act to make the older versions obsolete. This allegation is refuted by the publishers who feel that they are providing the most current information, by coming out with frequent revisions. Publishers and college book stores are dependent on each for their survival, with each one of them being in the market for making money.

In addition to books, one can find extra materials in the form of CDs in college book stores. Since CDs are cheap to produce and can store vast information, they are becoming popular options, replacing paper text books. Teaching professionals have welcomed such tools, which provide great information to their students. Most of the publishers also have a bundled offer along with college text books in the form of CDs or certain Web resources that can be accessed with the help of the disks.

Many college book stores also sell custom versions of textbooks written by certain professors or meant for only certain universities. There are many college book stores which deal with used books. Students generally sell their books to these book stores, when they are done with the classes. The stores, in turn, sell the used books at a discount to students who will be taking the class the following semester.

It is easy to locate college bookstores. They are all over, on university campuses or they could even be in your neighborhood. Alternately, you can get your books from online stores, which stock thousands of books. Online bookstores, too, have bundled offers and discounts from time to time.

As soon as your parents saw your shinning face when you were born, then I am sure they began discussing your future with one another and what they wanted for you. One of their wishes for your future was probably to see you graduate from college so that you would be able to acquire a professional level of employment.

For this dreams your parents had to plan, and part of that plan consisted of paying for your college education. Some children are lucky in that their parents have taken care of the financial burden of college for them, but others are not so lucky and they have to handle the cost of college themselves. Some children will start at an early age by knowing that college is important and will get summer jobs, save birthday money, Christmas money, allowances, mow yards, paint, or even baby sit to make money for their education. These individuals will do what every it takes to go to college.

While in high school, you are constantly creating entrance essays and completing applications for various colleges you want to attend. Find out what the requirements for each of the colleges of your choice are prior to applying, which will ensure that you are able to fulfill these so that you will not be let down. Also, check out the variety of scholarships that are available and see if you are able to qualify for them as well, then see if the colleges you have selected accept these scholarships.

Once you have been accepted to a college there are a number of fees that you faced with, which include tuition, food, room, board, transportation, and books. One great thing is that you will be able to save money if you purchase used textbooks, which can be purchased at a variety of sources on a number of different subjects. Once you have your schedule and the list of books you will need for each class, then it is important to go right then and start searching for those textbooks. Prior to purchasing your textbooks, be sure none of your professors have any preferences on a title of a book by a particular author, because this way you are given many more options if not.

Purchasing used books will save you possibly fifty percent off the price of a new textbook, plus previous students normally have written many valuable notes within the text book that many students find extremely helpful. To best way to purchase used books to do a little comparison shopping, although many students will purchase their used textbooks from the local campus book store. However, many communities will have used book stores that will have these same textbooks much cheaper than a campus book store will have. It is important to remember that a first edition textbook of Biology will contain the same information as a seventh edition. If this is the case, then go with the cheaper volume, because the information will be the same.

It is easy for me to rattle off a bunch of statistics about the cost of college textbooks from a university bookstore versus the online prices for the same books, but to compare apples to apples, I looked up several books currently being required for freshman courses at a university close to my own city. I found the average price per book was $101.71 if purchased from the university book store for a new book. The same books if purchased new online would cost $71.67, and if purchased online in “As New” condition would cost $57.33.

Thus, a college student wanting to buy new books online could save 29.5%, and if he/she were willing to accept “As New” books, which for all practical and aesthetic purposes are new books, he/she would save 43.6%.

Next, I used one of the online buyback websites to find out how much they would pay for these books if I had them to sell. For the new books required for a single freshman semester, that I would have to pay the university bookstore $712.12 to purchase, these buyback services would pay me $38.60. That is only 5.4% of what I would have to pay for them. No wonder the buy back services are so eager to buy college textbooks at the end of every term and show up in numbers trying to entice college students to sell them their unwanted textbooks.

As an online bookseller myself, I know these types of margins are indeed realistic. I would be happy to give anyone $38.60 for some used textbooks that I knew I could resell for $500+ as used books too, but I don’t show up on campus at the end of each term to take advantage of college students.

Not only do these margins apply to college textbooks, they apply to other books as well. A while back I bought a copy of “Kate: The Kate Moss Book,” by Kate Moss, ISBN 0789301016, for $0.49 at a used book store. I sold the book online for $199.99, which is a nice profit. If I had opted to sell this book to one of the buyback services I would have gotten $3.24 (I looked up the buyback price immediately before posting this article). While buying something for $0.49 and selling it for $3.24 is not a bad profit margin, 561%, I see no reason to settle for a profit of $2.75 when I could wait a month and make another $196.26, do you?

This is exactly what thousands of college students do at the end of every term. They settle for a little bit of chump change for a few beers when they could sell their unwanted textbooks online and get a lot
more for them by waiting a few weeks. They could also save a lot of money by learning about online bookselling and where to find the best textbook prices and not pay full list price for every book they buy. A little bit of time investigating online bookselling could definitely save the typical college student a lot of money over the course of their education.

Guaranteed textbook buy back programs have sprung up all over, online and off. You just have to keep an eye open for the right books. You know what textbook buy back is - wait in line, offer the university cashier your used textbook and hope they give you something other than loose change for it. But now you can get guaranteed textbook buy back.

The store will tell you what they will pay you for your book when you buy it, and you avoid the problems of keeping a book you don’t need after the class is finished.

Does This Work for Used Textbooks?

Even used textbooks can also be guaranteed. The department and the professors at your school have to using the book for a few years, then the store will offer a guarantee on that book. Online stores use a slightly different method, but the result is the same - if they see significant and continuing usage of the book, they can offer a guarantee for a used book, too.

The Numbers

This breakdown won’t be perfect, but you will get an idea of how these programs work. When a college or an online bookstore offers a guaranteed textbook buy back on a new book, they will often promise you 50 percent of the book price you paid at the beginning of the class. Then, they will add half of that when they resell it used, a total of about 75 percent of your price.

Used textbooks will work similarly but with slightly different numbers. You may get a higher percentage for your used book, say two thirds of what you paid. If you have access to a guaranteed textbook buy back, you get a pretty good deal. You know which textbooks you can sell for something, you probably know how much, and you save time. Cool. You get cheap textbooks and cash back.

Online and On Campus Differences

Textbook buy back will be a bit different online and on campus. You will have to ship for an online bookstore, but not on campus. And you will have to wait for the online bookstore to acknowledge your books. On the other hand, an online store may have a wider variety of books with a guarantee. You may also be able to return the books earlier than at the bookstore. Also, I have seen online bookstores provide the postage for you, so you just drop it in the mail.

On the other hand, your on campus bookstore will be close by, no waiting for a check. They will give you cash, and hopefully the line will be short.

Both will decide if the books have been damaged before they pay - severe damage invalidates the guarantee. Don’t drop it in a lake, or clip out the pages you like. Some wear is normal, some writing, some highlighting. You have to have all the pieces - all the pages, and any disks or student workbooks if included when you bought the book.

Go For It
You can’t expect to get all your textbooks cheap. I managed to do it in several classes, and even made money on one book. But over a full term of classes or a year, you have to expect to spend some money. In those cases, the guaranteed textbook buy back fills the bill, and helps reduce your expenses.

Maybe you’ll even have money for a First Run movie ticket - with popcorn!

You no doubt have tried textbook buy back at your university - or you soon will. It involves waiting in line, hoping that the statistics you barely passed in class will still help you get some cash out of the book you paid $80 to buy. But have you ever seen textbook buy back with a guarantee? A guarantee lets you avoid keeping a book you don’t need, and you don’t have wonder if you can sell it to the bookstore.

Textbook Buy Back Pains

I hated that feeling, as I stood in line to sell back my books. Know the feeling? You wait. You look around to see who else has your same books. You ask yourself, Will they still need my book? And finally, you arrive at the register, and they only need 1 of the 5 books you have. You get your $35 bucks, out of $250 or so you spent on books this semester, and you carry the other ones home.

A New Way for Textbook Buy Back: The Guarantee

For many books, you can avoid this now by getting books through websites and stores that will guarantee to buy back your book. Some campus stores and some online stores will guarantee to buy back certain books, and they will even tell you how much they will pay you. You still have some limitations, as you might expect.

End of Semester Time Saver

At the end of the semester, you will just take your books to a drop off point and pick up your cash - but you may have a line still. The difference is that you will also have a guaranteed return. With online stores, you will usually get a prepaid postage sticker you have to keep until the end of the term, and then you’ll mail them back for a check.

The companies that provide this service will tell you how much they will pay. Many university bookstores also offer this service. The books included in the program will typically have a sticker or an icon, if online, to show you that they have a guaranteed textbook buy back amount.

Be careful to leave the stickers on the books! They serve as your guarantee! Campus bookstores usually require that their sticker still be on the book.

Which Textbooks Are Included
Not all textbooks will have the guarantee, regardless of where you buy them. Even if some of yours don’t, you can still do it the old way during buy back week. And of course you can also try to sell it online.

Ask at your school bookstore if they offer guaranteed textbook buy back. And online, you can check out your favorite stores for guaranteed offers.

Good luck!

One of the best days for a college student is the day that they are completely finished with their final exams and they rush off and sell their used textbooks back to the school or other proximal bookstores. The relief of being done with classes and the chance to get a few extra bucks for those used textbooks is such a wonderful feeling and that night students usually use that money very “wisely” to relieve the stress of a work-filled semester.

This is a great thing for a poor, starving student, but unfortunately students often take the money that the bookstores offer them too eagerly. This article will be a brief discussion about how college students can make a little more money from selling their textbooks.

First things first, textbooks that are brand new – meaning that this is the first or second semester a university if using them – are golden. These books fetch the highest prices from the bookstores and are likely to be used for several semesters. Additionally, these textbooks have very few truly used books available, so the bookstores will pay a premium for them. But wait, you are saying that you had a brand new textbook that you paid $50 for earlier this semester, but the bookstore only gave you $15. Well, this concept only applies to books that are generally sold new for over $80 or $90. Books less than this will often be bought back from chunk change and you will not receive much for them from the bookstores.

So, what do I do with the 50% of textbooks that I have to buy each semester that do not fit into this category? The easy answer is, that there are a variety of ways you can get real money for these books. None of these ways really offer immediate gratification in the form of hard money for your textbooks, but a little patience can turn a $5 book (from the bookstore) into $20, $30, even more, depending on where you sell it.

If you like auctions, places like ebay are a great place to offer your textbooks, however, there is a flaw with this. Most auctions on ebay are time-sensitive, meaning that there has to be a buyer for your textbook. If you are selling your books from the fall semester, you usually will want to list them the week before classes start for the spring. This will give you the best return for your textbook. If you are selling your spring books, you should wait and list them right before the start of the fall semester, unless you know that your former class is being offered in the summer, and then the 1-week prior rule is a good rule to follow.

The other way to use ebay and other online auction sites is to simply open an ebay store. This method enables you to list your books in a never-ending format, however, the drawback is that you have to pay a monthly fee for your “store” and you also have competition from other sellers that list the same book (if there are any) as you do. Other online stores offer you a similar method to sell your books as does ebay, but without the “store” monthly fees. Sites such as Craigslist and Amazon offer you the ability to place your book in a listing format where you ask for a set price. The drawback is that people often will “undercut” you by offering their book for less than you. Thus, if you want a good price for your textbook, you either must be patient, or decrease what you want for your textbook.

The last means to get more for your textbooks that I will discuss is that of a textbook exchange service. Textbook exchanges are a relatively new concept, and they are not that popular at most college campuses yet. These offer a best-case scenario for college students as many allow you to both sell your textbooks to other students, or you can exchange a textbook for a book you need for your next semester. A good site is BookDefy and this site allows you to do both.

Why do these sites offer you a “best-case-scenario”? Well, the answer is simple, many professors require textbooks that change very little (consider English texts, MLA handbooks, math and chemistry). Most of these topics have few, if any, different topics or discussions. Now, the publishers will often change small things to attempt to force students to buy a “new” edition, but old editions will have the same content. Students who use these exchange services can actually exchange for an older edition of the textbook for a textbook that someone else needs. Although both students initially spent, probably a lot of money on their respective textbook, they can find each other via a site like BookDefy and neither student has to spend any more money on books. If you can’t find a student to exchange with, other students may either buy your textbook, or you can buy theirs and not worry about shipping and handling like you would probably with ebay, amazon or other sites.

In summation, just because the bookstores do not offer you decent money for your textbooks does not mean you should sell them back. There are many ways to turn those older, less “valuable” books into cold hard cash, and these are just a couple of the ways you can do this.

The expense of tuition and housing for college students has been rapidly increasing every year, as we all know. The price of textbooks, however, seems to have skyrocketed disproportionately. Having one kid in college and another on their way in a year, we have tried to cut back textbook expenses in any way possible. Purchasing a brand new book is usually out of the question, as the price for some can be a couple of hundred dollars! Though most new books average around $100.00, if you found out which books you needed early enough, a used book could be purchased at the college bookstore for almost half that price. The key here is finding out in enough time to beat out other scrambling students, as used books are hard to come by at the many campus bookstores. Also, many of these bookstores will let you return the book when you are finished for a partial refund, as long as it has remained in good condition.

Shopping around before purchasing your books, can be a real eye opener and may save you a lot of money. Just be sure to have all of the correct information before you start pricing textbooks, because a great bargain is worthless, if you have purchased the wrong book. Contacting your campus book store with your course information, should help you to obtain what text books are required for a particular class. Remember to ask for the ISBN and the Edition for each book required, as these are most important. Having the wrong edition of a book will have you running back to the book store (and good luck getting a refund)! The ISBN, which stands for International Standard Book Number, is a unique 10-digit to 13-digit number given to every book published, as identification, and is usually found on the back cover, near the bar code. To search for a book by ISBN, just type the 10 or 13 numbers into a book store’s search box, without dashes.

Finding a textbook online can save you a lot of money, if you do not wait until the last minute and purchase carefully. I am hesitant to buy from any place that I am unfamiliar with, so I usually stick with reputable merchants. Many bookstores offer used book prices, right next to the new book price. Many places have a “buy back” program so that you can get money back after you are finished using the book and some will even pay the shipping costs for you! If you plan to resell your book, remember to keep it in good condition, and be careful not to have any excessive highlighting or writing in the book. Happy Shopping!

Textbooks will always be important to every student in every level. College textbooks, on the other hand, are pricier than the typical grade school or high school books. College students need the right textbooks according to their field of study. Students in the field of science, engineering, business, and medical courses need the necessary reading material to gain knowledge in their craft.

College textbooks are very expensive these days and students have a hard time settling these expenses. So when the string gets short, it is about time to change perspectives and be open to other options.

If you are a student who is determined to graduate, you would gladly embrace positive ways to get you through college and keep you on the right track. Staying in libraries will definitely do you good, but of course, you cannot own their books; in as much as you want to cling to them if you still have the pressing need for them. These books are chained to the library and you are bounded by days.

Availing of used textbooks is a wise alternative to brush off the high costs of expensive textbooks. Since the book business has become an enterprise, little can be done to curb their ever-increasing costs. It is up to the student now to act on it.

When you buy the very same book titles in used conditions and you get them at cheaper prices, you will be able to save a few dollars. This is wise buying that can set you off with better decisions in the future of handling your finances. If you no longer have the need for these textbooks, do not let them gather dust on your shelves. It is better to sell them again and get your money back eventually.

If you want to know where to get secondhand textbooks, the Internet is a good source. The Internet has vast resources for your every used textbook needs. When you check for websites, there are certain domains to make your search easier. Classifying and separating particular subjects on books that you might need, such as math, physics, science, and more. This is book hunting the most comfortable way.

If you are the seller, you can post your college textbooks on these sites. You can list down the books that you want to sell. This way, you are not only earning, but also reaching out to those students who are constrained in budget. Anybody can get the best deals in finding used textbooks since you can easily compare prices here.

College professors suggest the books to use during his or her term. Once you learn of the books, get the ISBN code, and type it in the website selling used textbooks. You will most probably get the book you need at a much cheaper price. Just imagine the convenience this brings.
